The update will work on Windows 10 Build 19041.450 and newer versions and aims at highlighting the optional updates page that existed in Windows 7. With the recently launched feature, users can easily check and discover all driver updates along with other monthly non-security features. You will no longer require to visit the Driver manager page to get driver updates. Windows 10 gives you the ability to access it directly under the below path. Open Settings tab> now select the Update & Security option > next choose Windows Update option to View optional updates.
You will also have a single and consolidated view of all the updates relevant to your device, including the non-security updates, quality updates, and updates related to device drivers. However, this update will only be visible when:
An OEM driver is approved and officially published by Microsoft on the Windows update catalog.Or optional updates are available.
Another method of checking the optional updates is the Run Window. In the Run window type “ms-settings:windowsupdate-optionalupdates” and click on the OK button. If any updates are available it will be visible on the screen otherwise you will have a blank window. Another important point to discuss is that Windows will still be able to automatically install updates without user’s consent, if you want to block the running updates you can do it by using the pause option. Currently, the update is available for Windows 10 version 2004 and will be gradually extended to other versions in the future.
Differentiating Factor Between Updates From Device Manager And Windows Update
Device manager lets you search for hardware-specific updates while on the other hand, Windows updates will give you details of all the available updates without any boundaries.
